Modern materials are often complex formulations containing multiple chemistries with different functions. Understanding the impact of these chemistries on oxidative stability, any potential interactions with antioxidants and the desired end performance of the material is critical to formulating a good antioxidant system. Blends of different kinds of antioxidants are often used in order to provide optimal performance. Organic materials, both of synthetic and natural origin, readily undergo oxidation reactions. Oxidation can lead to loss of physical properties, discoloration and product failure. Antioxidants are widely used to protect plastics, adhesives, lubricants, elastomers, coatings and other materials from oxidation during high temperature processing and/or exposure to elevated temperatures during storage or end-use.
