Antioxidants
Mayzo provides a variety of antioxidants, which are useful to protect adhesives, lubricants, plastics, elastomers, and coatings from oxidation during high temperature processing and/or exposure to elevated temperatures during end-use. Antioxidants are subdivided into chemical families having different performance characteristics, including phenolic antioxidants, metal deactivators, amine antioxidants, phosphites, thiosynergists, and hydroxylamines. Blends of different kinds of antioxidants are often used in order to provide optimal performance.
Phenolic Antioxidants
Hindered phenols are the most widely used antioxidants and are highly effective in an extensive range of applications. They function as free radical scavengers and provide protection during high temperature processing operations and also during end use at elevated temperatures. Combinations of phenolic antioxidants with phosphites and thiosynergists are often used.
BNX 1010
Solid, high molecular weight phenolic antioxidant
Low volatility, excellent thermal stability, good compatibility with most resins
Excellent choice for general purpose use
Broad food contact clearances in adhesives and plastics
Available in a blend (BNX 1225) with the phosphite antioxidant Benefos 1680
is a high molecular weight hindered phenolic
BNX 1076
Solid antioxidant useful for the stabilization of polyolefins (polyethylene,
polypropylene), polystyrene, ABS resin, PVC resin, and EPDM
BNX 1035
Solid antioxidant particularly useful for the stabilization of polyethylene,
styrenic polymers, polypropylene, and elastomers such as EPDM and
SBR and for carboxylated SBR latex, polybutadiene rubber and
polyisoprene rubber
BNX 2246
Solid antioxidant used for the stabilization of ABS, EVA, and polyolefins
polyethylene, polypropylene)
BNX 1077
Liquid antioxidant recommended for use in lubricants, PVC, ABS, elastomers
such as SBR, BR, & NBR, polyols, and polyurethane foams
BNX TAHQ
Solid, non-staining hydroquinone-based antioxidant recommended for use
in unvulcanized rubber adhesives, tapes and films.
Metal Deactivators
Metal deactivators are special phenolic antioxidants containing functional groups that enable them to complex with and deactivate metal ions, which can accelerate the oxidation of plastics. They are widely used in wire and cable insulation applications to protect plastics from exposure to metals such as copper during end use.
BNX MD-1024
Solid, dual functional antioxidant and metal deactivator
Recommended for use in polyolefins and some thermoplastic elastomers used
as primary insulation in wire and cable applications, and in other applications
in which there is contact with copper or other metals.
BNX MD-1097
Solid, dual functional antioxidant and metal deactivator
Recommended for use in polyolefins and some thermoplastic elastomers used
as primary insulation in wire and cable applications, and in other applications
in which there is contact with copper or other metals
Lower melting point than BNX MD-1024 for easier processing
Phosphite
Phosphite antioxidants function by decomposing peroxides and provide protection to adhesives, plastics, and coatings during high temperature processing but not during end-use at elevated temperatures. Combinations with phenolic antioxidants often show synergistic performance and are widely used.
Benefos 1680
Solid phosphite for general-purpose use in adhesives, plastics, and coatings
Excellent resistance to hydrolysis
Available in a blend (BNX 1225) with the phenolic antioxidant BNX 1010
Thiosynergist
Thiosynergists also function by decomposing peroxides. When used in combination with phenolic antioxidants, they provide unsurpassed protection to plastics against exposure to elevated temperatures during end-use. However, they are generally less effective than phosphites in providing protection during high temperature processing operations.
BNX DLTDP
Solid thiosynergist for general purpose use in plastics, elastomers
and lubricants
Hydroxylamine
Hydroxylamines are powerful antioxidants that can function both as free radical scavengers and as peroxide decomposers. They provide excellent processing stability to plastics while producing less discoloration (especially on exposure to combustion gases) than phenolic antioxidants. Combinations with some hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS) can also provide good protection to plastics against exposure to elevated temperatures during end-use.
BNX 2000
Solid hydroxylamine antioxidant for general use in plastics
Antioxidant Blends
BNX 1000
Proprietary liquid antioxidant blend highly effective for the protection
of adhesives, elastomers, and other polymer systems
Liquid form provides excellent dispersibility in both solvent- and
water-based formulations
Low volatility, good compatibility with a wide range of substrates, and
good resistance to extraction
BNX 1225
Solid blend of 50% of the phenolic antioxidant BNX 1010 and 50% of
the phosphite Benefos 1680
Provides excellent processing and long term thermal stability in a
wide range of plastics
