Custom Chemical Additive Blends Provide Cost, Productivity Advantages

Companies that use more than one chemical additive in their manufacturing process can benefit from switching to a custom additive blend.  Typical results are both a reduction in operating cost and an increase in productivity. Custom blends have traditionally been developed for large consumers of additives. Mayzo is uniquely positioned to help you achieve the benefits of custom blending without the limitation on multiple truckload order sizes.

Custom blends are typically proprietary formulations designed for specific customer applications and environmental conditions. There are many different choices in how the blends are technically constructed including: powder / liquid mixing, granulating, pelletizing, and extruding. The outcome is a single product or formulation containing several different chemical additive components.

Over the years, the Mayzo team have become experts in developing custom blend formulations for customers. Below are just a few examples of how Mayzo overcame additive challenges and reduced cost.

  • A process engineer was dosing five components in a UV/AO package, with limited feed ports in the extruder resulting in dosing errors. Mayzo created a custom blend in an easy to feed pellet form and in a custom package.  The plant manager avoided making a capital investment on a new feed system. The process engineer moved to vacuum loading of a single product to reduce his dosing errors.
  • An EHS Supervisor at a large plastic extruded part company learned about the hazardous nature of one of the UV components in his system and was challenged to remove the hazard. Rather than reformulate, which would have been costly and time-consuming, he contacted Mayzo. We developed a custom blend which effectively “diluted” the hazardous component as part of a non-hazardous system. The end product was a 100% active pellet using other raw materials in a precise ratio that matched his existing feed ratios.
  • A plant engineer was having problems dispersing AO into his hot-melt process, resulting in long mix times. Mayzo created a custom, pre-dispersed liquid blend of the AO package, which was pump-able at low temperatures. The engineer decreased each batch’s mixing time based on the AO being “pre-dispersed” in a liquid carrier.
