UV Absorbers

Mayzo provides a variety of UV absorbers, which are useful to protect adhesives, plastics, coatings, and elastomers from the damaging effects of outdoor weathering that result from exposure to ultraviolet light.

  • As their name implies, these additives function by competitive absorption of damaging UV light.
  • Combinations of UV absorbers with other kinds of light stabilizers (for example hindered amine light stabilizers, or HALS) are often used in order to attain the best resistance to weathering.

BLS® 99-2

Overview

BLS 99-2 is a liquid benzotriazole UV absorber that provides outstanding light stability to industrial and automotive coatings.  As a liquid, BLS 99-2 blends easily and disperses completely, resulting in lower loading requirements, and virtually eliminating the particle dispersion problems associated with conventional powder UV absorbers.  The liquid form also allows for outstanding compatibility with a wide variety of coating systems, including waterborne and solvent-based coatings.

Applications

It is ideal for use in both water- and solvent-based systems. Combinations of BLS 99-2 with hindered amine light stabilizers such as BLS 292 often provide significantly enhanced performance, providing maximum long-term protection against blistering, color change, cracking, gloss reduction, and delamination.

BLS 234

Overview

BLS 234 is a low volatile, benzotriazole type, ultraviolet light absorber (UVA), which is highly effective for polymers being processed at high temperatures.   BLS 234 is especially suited for polycarbonates and polyesters.  It protects the polymers from UV radiation helping to preserve the original appearance and physical integrity.

Applications

BLS 234 is especially suited for polymers processed at high temperatures, such as polycarbonates, polyesters, and others. It is ideal for applications of high surface area, such as films and fibers. It is also useful in the light stabilization of solvent-based coatings and powder coatings.

Overview

BLS 531 is an ultraviolet light absorber (UVA) of the benzophenone class, imparting good light stability for plastics and other organic polymers.  Due to its highly effective broad UV absorption properties and excellent polymer compatibility, BLS 531 offers maximum polymer protection and low color contribution, retards yellowing and loss of physical properties

Applications

BLS 1130

Overview

BLS 1130 is a liquid benzotriazole UV absorber that provides outstanding light stability to industrial and automotive coatings.  It blends easily and disperses completely, reducing loading requirements and virtually eliminating particle dispersion problems associated with solid UV absorbers.  The liquid form is also highly compatible with a wide variety of coating systems, including waterborne and solvent-based systems.  BLS 1130 is also useful as a light stabilizer in other applications including plastics, adhesives, and sealants.
